Los Angeles is a fragile construction of a desert city that would be fatally dry, if not for its deliberate import of water from the Colorado River. The city's consumption of water continues to increase at an unsustainable rate and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is considered to have the highest risk of water shortage.
This proposal for a 2,000 square foot single family residence in Santa Monica, CA was designed with that issue in mind. The roof serves as the highlight in the home, as it helps organize the spaces and funnel rainwater down into an underground water basin which residents can use to store their own water.
