CINEMATIC DINING

WEBSITE CODING

Cinematic Dining was a final coding project done for the Slow Code course at SVA IxD.   A team collaboration between Sarah Henry, Nga Nguyen and myself, this website combined our individual ideas from previous projects, which utilized location databases, our fondness of film, and eating out in Manhattan to design a service that inspires the user to explore iconic restaurants as shown in Hollywood films.

An alternative to a Yelp or Zagat rating, the novelty is in selecting restaurants to visit based on TV and movie scenes that resonate with the user.  We hand-selected scenes from actual New York City restaurants to create a location database that did not previously exist.

As the main objective of this project was to demonstrate our coding abilities, much of our time was spent building, importing and formatting a dynamic database and refining the interaction.

The two we narrowed down to was either 1) Emotional, in which the site would highlight discovery and film nostalgia or 2) Pragmatic, in which the website would function more like a Yelp review.

Ultimately, the 3 of us envisioned the site to play on people's memories of iconic films and famous restaurants, so we went with the "Emotional" approach.
